Cement Mixer Visit
Pippins were really fortunate to have a visit from a cement mixer which came about after the children started to talk about building their houses using the wooden blocks. Adults set to work creating opportunities in and around the environment for children to explore construction with emphasis in the sand area on making “Cement” with sand, water and shaving foam. We have talked about the consistency needing to be just right and this has led to in depth discussions and problem solving how to make the mixture wetter or dryer.
With some careful planning from Nursery adults and that of Russell Taylor and the company Breedon we managed to create a wonderful opportunity for the children with the mixer visit. Russell, the driver and a third member of the Breedon team spent around 4 hours with us yesterday allowing the children time to explore the mixer, with visits into the cab, observations of the mixer moving and some questions about what goes inside and what the steps at the back were for.
What was lovely was that children had the time to ask their questions, the Breedon team were happy to answer them and also spent time talking about where cement might be found and what it is used for, pointing it out in our nursery building and pavements, really bringing it all to life!
Thank you Russell and Breedon for creating such a wonderful and memorable experience for our little learners x
