Emneth Nursery School Governors-Who are they?
Claire Hooker-Head teacher
I have been a qualified teacher for 16 years now and have taught a range of year groups from nursery to year 6, but my real passion is for early years. I completed a degree in Early Childhood studies at Northampton University and then went on to do a PGCE at Norwich University in order to get my teaching qualification. I have worked at Emneth School for 4 years now and I love it! I have lived in Norfolk all of my life and I have two very active boys aged 13 and 10, as well as a crazy dog. I enjoy listening to music, watching theatre shows and going for walks along the coast.
Sarah Fairbrother- Co-opted, Chair, Parent and Staff Liaison, Well-being.
I joined as a governor in February 2019. I attended Emneth Nursery School when I was a child and my daughter, Millie currently attends the nursery school. I am a director and solicitor specialising in family law at Ward Gethin Archer solicitors. I have previously been a trustee of both Relate Derbyshire and Relate Norfolk and Suffolk. I have a keen interest in fundraising and hope to be able to support the nursery in raising extra funds to be able to give the children the best experiences at nursery possible

I was an active member of the parents’ associations of the schools attended by my four children (now all grown up). I am the Treasurer of St Edmunds Church and my hobbies include my small holding (mostly for hay), horses, DIY and reading.
Samantha Melton- Co-opted- Fundraising,
I am a chartered certified accountant working locally in Downham Market. In my spare time I enjoy being with my husband and 2 year old who attends the nursery. I joined the board of governors in September 2019 and look forward to supporting the nursery.
Emily Wilson- Parent Governor- Special Educational Needs. LAC.
I am a mum of two children, both of whom currently attend Emneth Nursery. We live locally in Elm and love exploring outdoors and messy play. I am a teacher at the local special school and over the last ten years have worked with primary and secondary students with a wide range of needs and learning difficulties. I feel that the knowledge and skills I have gained since working in education are of benefit to me in my role as a governor here at the nursery and children’s centre.
Mathew Putterill- Parent Governor- Able children, Health & Safety.
Hi there I am Mat and not only am I a father of two that both come to Emneth Nursery I also used to come to Emneth Nursery as a child and then Emneth Primary. I lived in this village all my life up to last year when we moved to Upwell so not a million miles away. I have worked in health and social care for over ten years now and currently run a residential home for vulnerable children ranging from early years all the way up to adulthood.
I enjoy spending time with my children and family, playing all sorts of different games and activities.... especially lego.
Valerie Heath- Co-opted, Safeguarding, Curriculum,
For the past 30 years I have lived and raised my family in Outwell, although I recently moved a bit further afield. My three children attended the nursery in the 1990s and have fond memories of time spent there. Since 2000 I have worked in children's services, spending time in the local authority and in the health service. I was involved in the Sure Start programme, the fore-runner to children's centres, and was the programme co-ordinator who established the Fen Border Sure Start that was based at the nursery. Since Norfolk's children's centres closed I have taken a step back from my professional life (can't decide if I've really retired) and spend my time catching up on all the hobbies I didn't have time for and enjoying life with our three dogs.
